  Add Date : 2017-08-31
There are a variety of desktop in Ubuntu way to provide weather information, you can use the Unity Dash and desktop applications to get weather information, such as the Typhoon.

But it can provide rapid query weather conditions and temperature data, and requires only a mouse click and get a lot of meteorological data panel insert, is by far the most popular Linux platform weather applications.

Atareao My Weather Indicator was developed such applications in one, but arguably one of the best.

It displays real-time temperature and weather conditions on the Unity panel, and there is a sense of body temperature, cloudiness and sunrise sunset time weather data menu included. In addition, the application also supports desktop widgets, multi-regional support, weather data provider choice and many other configuration options.

Sounds good, huh? Here we look at how to install and configure it right on Ubuntu.

My Weather Indicator install on Ubuntu

My Weather Indicator was unable to obtain directly from the Ubuntu Software Store. However, the developer has provided us with a .deb package for maintenance and official PPA (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and 14.10 to provide the installation package).

Download My Weather Indicator (.deb package)
To ensure that your application is the latest version, I recommend adding Atareao PPA to your software image source, and then installed by PPA.

How to do it? Open a new terminal window (Unity Dash> Terminal, or press Ctrl + Alt + T shortcut key), then enter the following two commands, during which you need to enter your system password at the prompt:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: atareao / atareao
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator
Configure My Weather Indicator

Whether you are by what method to install the application, you can search for "weather" in the Unity Dash and click the application to open it.

First open the configuration window will appear following the application. Here you can set the region manually or automatically using geo-ip to get. Or sometimes it may not be accurate, but it eliminates the need for manual setup process.

If you are traveling (for chat or need), you can add a second area. The settings and their first area is the same, but is appears in the "second region" in the tab bar only.

In the "Widget settings" area check "Show Desktop widgets" option will add a little weather widget on your desktop. Widgets provide many different skin, so you have to carefully pick your favorite one (Note: Click "OK" to save the changes to take small parts after).

My Weather Indicator using Open Weather Map as the default weather data provider. But you can choose other data in 'Weather Services' panel provider (marked with * need to provide API key):

Open Weather Map
Yahoo! Weather
Weather Underground *
World Weather Online *
In the 'Units' tab, you can set the unit of temperature, pressure, wind speed and other data. These settings apply to all regions added, which means you can not use degrees Celsius in one area, another region Fahrenheit.

Finally, in the 'General Options' tab, you can set the update interval data, set to start automatically choose from two options and icons as a panel icon.

If you are a command line control, you can also try the Linux view weather data.
