NVIDIA 358.16 - NVIDIA first stable version of the 358 series has been released, and 358.09 of the (beta) made some amendments, as well as some minor improvements.
NVIDIA 358 adds a new nvidia-modeset.ko kernel module, it can work with nvidia.ko kernel module to call GPU display engine. After the release version, nvidia-modeset.ko kernel mode driver will be used to set up the basic interface, the interface provided by the kernel's Direct Rendering Manager (DRM).
The new driver also has a new GLX protocol extensions, and a lot of system memory to allocate new memory allocation mechanism in OpenGL driver. The new GPU GeForce 805A and GeForce GTX 960A are supported. NVIDIA 358.16 also supports X.Org 1.18 server and OpenGL 4.3.
How to Install in Ubuntu NVIDIA 358.16:
Do not install the equipment, unless you know what you are doing and how to recover.
For the official binaries, please nvidia.com/object/unix.html view.
For those who like Ubuntu PPA, I suggest you use the graphics card driver PPA. So far, support for Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04.
1. Add PPA.
To open the terminal from the desktop Unity by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T shortcut. When the fight started after the application, paste the following command and press enter:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: graphics-drivers / ppa
It will ask you to enter a password. After entering the password, the password is not displayed on the screen, press Enter to continue.
2. Refresh and install a new driver
After you add the PPA, one by one to run the following command to refresh the repository and install the new driver:
sudoapt-get install nvidia-358 nvidia-settings
(If necessary,) Uninstall:
Boot into recovery mode from the GRUB menu, enter the root console. Then one by one, run the following command:
Remount the file system can be written:
mount-o remount, rw /
Remove all nvidia packages:
apt-get purge nvidia *
Finally, return to the menu and reboot:
To disable / delete graphics driver PPA, software updates and click under System Settings, and then navigate to other software label.
