  Linux System Getting Started Tutorial: How to find the maximum memory your system supports

  In most cases you can from the BIOS, product catalog or simply manually find the maximum memory your system held. Here, we introduce a simple and useful tips - use dmidecode to find the maximum memory supported by the system, so you do not need to open the case or reference BIOS and the product catalog.

What is dmidecode?

As you probably know, like, dmidecode is a computer DMI (also known as SMBIOS) table of contents is converted into readable formats. This table contains useful information such as the introduction and some other serial number and IOS version of the system hardware components and the like. Use dmidecode you can get this information without having to detect the real hardware.

Find the maximum memory your system supports

Make sure you have the system installed dmidecode, I think your operating system should have been automatically installed, but is not quite sure.

Installed Deb-based system

sudo apt-get install dmidecode
Installed in the RPM-based system

sudo yum install dmidecode
Installed SUSE / openSUSE in

sudo zypper in dmidecode
Well, we have installed dmidecode, then let us find the maximum memory support. Enter the following command:

sudo dmidecode -t 16
